Drawing inspiration from a 19th-century barn, the Old Stone Highway House is a modern interpretation of Long Island’s agricultural vernacular. The design balances rustic simplicity with contemporary performance, incorporating environmentally conscious building technologies throughout. Structural insulated panels (SIPs) provide high thermal efficiency, while geothermal systems and radiant floors deliver sustainable comfort. Passive solar massing strategies shape the form and orientation of the house, reducing energy demand while maximizing natural light. The result is a timeless modern barn that is rooted in tradition yet designed for the future.
