STATUS: Schematic Design
LOCATION: Amagansett, New York
PROGRAM: Single Family Residence
Raised with purpose and composed with restraint, this residence is envisioned as a modern retreat that pairs resilience with refined living. Elevated on a piles to meet FEMA flood requirements, the house rises above grade for protection while remaining firmly connected to its natural surroundings. From the entry approach to the interior thresholds, the design reveals a careful balance of openness and shelter, drawing daylight deep inside and framing quiet views of sky and landscape.
The architecture is organized as a series of clean, interlocking volumes shaped by light and shadow. Deep roof overhangs provide shade for large expanses of glass. Terraces, covered porches, and transitional outdoor rooms extend living spaces outward, creating a layered relationship between interior and exterior.
Inside, the plan is both efficient and generous. Circulation is streamlined, service zones are discreetly integrated, and each square foot is purposefully used, allowing gathering spaces to feel open and airy despite the small area. The exterior siding is selected and detailed to weather gracefully and require minimal maintenance.
Elevated construction for flood protection and a landscape plan attuned to native vegetation reduce environmental impact while ensuring year-round comfort. The result is a home that is resilient, elegantly efficient, and quietly attuned to the character of its setting.
