The Bayshore Road Residence is a resilient yet refined coastal retreat on the North Fork of Long Island, near Greenport, with sweeping northern views of Shelter Island Sound. Although half the property lies outside the flood zone, the increasing intensity of coastal storms led the clients to embrace a future-proofed design strategy: the house is elevated a full story above grade on a foundation of concrete boxes built on helical piles.

These four shingle-clad concrete volumes are both structural and programmatic, housing a carport, gym, storage, outdoor shower, and gardening shed. They are equipped with flood vents, ensuring the home is prepared for shifting climate conditions and future coastal events. Above, the single-level residence is defined by a restrained material palette—western red cedar shingles, light interiors, and high-performance European floor-to-ceiling windows and doors—all chosen to emphasize the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

The compact yet open plan frames expansive views through sliding glass doors, connecting directly to a rooftop terrace with a pergola, outdoor kitchen, and solar panels. This elevated floor provides ample space for outdoor dining and relaxation while maximizing the site’s dramatic coastal outlook.

By uniting durable coastal construction with understated modern design, the Bay Shore Road Residence reflects the architectural character of the North Fork while offering a secure and contemporary retreat in Greenport, NY.
